Jobber PD Day Wrap Up
If you weren't able to make it to the Jobber Professional Development Day, that's okay! Real talk? I was also on job sites for part of it and I was a panelist! What did you miss?
Well, in a word, the summit was incredible. Raymond John, loving known as "The People's Shark" on Shark Tank, Founder & CEO of FUBU, Author, and Television Personality opened us up with an energizing talk about entrepreneurship. He reminded us of the pitfalls of greed (ordering too much inventory, over-hiring, taking steps that don't make sense for where you are right now), ego (doing something for status instead of investment), and personal responsibility as a business owner.
Feeling pumped, we headed off to three different tracks-- Process, Profit, and People. Each track featured experts presenting as individual speakers and as panelists, all of whom brought practical, applicable knowledge to the table.
In our panel, Seal Pro Painting, Liberty Village Plumbing, and I talked about the importance of community involvement. Your community involvement will happen-- whether you are intentional about it or not. Take control of how you interact with the community by managing the way your business interacts with its employees, its vendors, its clients, and the public.
From events like community art crawls (a Liberty Village Plumbing project) to free exterior painting for teachers (Seal Pro Painting), to an at-cost project for the Manhattan Emergency Shelter, we each have learned the same thing: people don't remember your branding, they remember what you've done for their neighbors.
